- Abstract: The paper presents the use of the SWAT model, which is primarily intended for water managers, for forecasting and assessment of various natural and human impacts on water, sediment yields and nutrient inputs from agricultural land. The main aim of the research was to analyse the possibility of applying SWAT modules based on the physical phenomena of water movement in the formation of runoff and to assess the application of the model for hydrological modelling. A hydrological model of Glinščica basin was developed, which has already been the subject of several hydrological studies and for which measurements of precipitation and runoff were available. The model was calibrated and validated and the sensitivity analysis to individual parameters was performed. The application of the model demonstrates satisfactory results of surface runoff; however, its use and calibration are quite challenging and complex, since they are based on a relatively large number of parameters. We can therefore conclude that in terms of hydrological modelling, the application of a SWAT model is particularly suitable in cases where we are interested not only in the runoff, but also in other processes related to it, such as sediments loads or intake of nutrients from agricultural land during a longer period of time.
